Small interventions are sometimes all that is needed to make a difference in a backyard with limited space. The brief was for a Japanese inspired design and a choice was made to go with natural timbers: Cyprus for the main frame and spotted gum for the decking.
Care was taken to keep the ceiling and decking construction in the same depth as the frame allowing for the crisp frame to remain prominent. This Fitzory project is essentially a garage conversion with half the space being remodelled to become a Japanese inspired eating/drinking space.
The architecture is minimalist with natural timbers celebrated in the joinery.
